The Universal Language

The Universal Language is a new feature-length documentary film that is being directed by San Francisco-based filmmaker Sam Green. The film will be an experimental meditation on the subjects of hope, the utopian impulse and the complex realities of “human nature.” Weaving together a number of documentary stories that evoke these themes, The Universal Language will raise issues and questions that are especially pressing today: What has happened to our ability to imagine a future based on humankind’s noblest impulses? Why don’t people in the West have utopian dreams anymore, and what does this say about our societies? What have we gained and what have we given up with our more “realistic” notions of human nature and its limitations? The Universal Language is currently in the development stage. The project is being supported by the Rockefeller Foundation, The Guggenheim Foundation, and the Anthony Radziwill Documentary Fund.
